“Sweet Fury” by Sash Bischoff

Bischoff was raised in San Diego, but now works on and Off Broadway in New York City, both as a writer and director. She drew from her theatre experience for her debut novel, a cerebral thriller about a celebrity actress who must get to the root of her own traumas after she’s cast in a feminist adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “Tender is the Night.” She’s already made fans of Rebecca Makkai and Joyce Carol Oates, who called “Sweet Fury” “wildly imaginative” and “filled with surprises.” (Simon & Schuster, Jan. 7, 2025; 288 pages)

Warwick’s hosts two local events on Jan. 22.  At 11:45 a.m.,  Bischoff will be the guest speaker at a Booked for Lunch event at a La Jolla-area restaurant. For reservations, email [email protected]. A book reading takes place at 7:30 p.m. at  Warwick’s, 7812 Girard Ave., La Jolla. Free or $27.99 with book and reserved seat. 858- 454-0347, warwicks.com
